Are Leki ski gloves any good? ›

They aren't mittens. And they aren't built for arctic conditions. But for most days on the slopes, they'll work great. During testing, my hands definitely got a little chilly on the lifts — but that would have likely happened with any similar ski glove, given the relatively cold conditions.

This is how you find your glove size: measure your hand circumference at its widest point. The resulting circumference corresponds to the specified LEKI glove sizes.

If you have longer fingers go with the larger size. If you have short or normal fingers go with the smaller size. If you like a roomier glove that will pack out less and be a bit warmer (more space for your hand to breathe), go with the larger size.

For the best performance, a glove should fit snugly and allow enough room at the end of outstretched fingers for you to pinch a quarter of an inch of fabric, whilst making sure your palm is completely inside the cuff so that your wrist remains covered.

1948: LEKI IS BORN

They made a new home in Kirchheim unter Teck, Germany, at the foot of the Swabian Alb. The couple had little start-up capital, but in 1948, just one year after their wedding they began their first business making wood-carved company signs - the foundation of LEKI.

If you want a snugger fitting experience then size down. If you want a warmer experience size up - more breathability inside the glove will trap more warm air from your body.

This makes mittens an excellent choice for those who tend to have cold hands or are skiing in extremely cold conditions. On the other hand, gloves provide less warmth but offer better dexterity. With separate compartments for each finger, gloves allow for more freedom of movement and finer control.

If your coat can cinch down at the end of your jacket sleeve, you might like the style of an under-the-cuff glove or mitten. Conversely, if you're in deep snow or want even more warmth, the over-the-cuff (aka gauntlet) style glove or mitten may work better for you.

Gloves, with their individual fingers, offer better dexterity than mittens and are ideal for activities where you need to frequently handle gear, adjust boot buckles and zip zippers. Lightweight gloves are a great choice for aerobic activities, such as cross-country skiing, where your body is generating lots of heat.

How do you break in ski gloves? ›

Step 1: Set your oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Step 2: Once heated, pop your gloves or mittens in the oven placing them in an “A-Frame” with the steel D-rings / glove clips pointing up so they do not burn. If you have wrist leashes, be sure to remove them first! Step 3: Set a timer for 4 minutes.
