Until Dawn is back with a fresh coat of paint, but that isn't all that has changed with the choice-based horror remake. Developer Ballistic Moon has made a variety of bold changes to the game in an attempt to bring more insight to the story of Until Dawn. From a reworked prologue to new end-credits scenes, some of these updates have been intriguing, while others have caused controversy among players.
One of the most surprising changes to Until Dawn has been the omission of "O Death," the folk song featured at the beginning of the original game. This has proven to be a major point of criticism within the remake. The game's soundtrack in general gets a significant overhaul, but "O Death" getting left on the cutting room floor has left many players disappointed.

Bringing Bold Change to an Iconic Beginning
Despite the variety of changes that have been made, some reworked moments have brought extra context to scenes in Until Dawn that some have seen as beneficial. For Until Dawn to be such a beloved horror title, any changes made by Ballistic Moon were bound to be divisive, but using a different song for the game's opening credits has ignited the most feedback from players. Much of the criticism for the new opening revolves around opinions that "O Death" really set a special tone for Until Dawn and that the new song doesn't quite hit the same mark.

Ballistic Moon Putting Its Own Spin On Until Dawn
Stepping Away From a Supermassive Games Tradition
Ballistic Moon may have headed the Until Dawn remake, but Supermassive Games is responsible for bringing the original to life. The success of Until Dawn kickstarted the creation of the Dark Pictures anthology, and "O Death" has continued to play a large role in the series. So far, each chapter of the Dark Pictures anthology has featured an opening credits sequence that uses "O Death" as its theme. Although it's understandable for Ballistic Moon to want to rework the game in its own image, foregoing the use of this song is a break in tradition that has shocked many who have grown attached to this opening. Reworking the credits sequence is one thing, but adding a brand-new song has changed the tone for many players who were eager to be greeted by "O Death."
The Until Dawn remake has sparked rumors of a potential sequel on the way.
While the remake succeeds at making Wendigos more terrifying and giving deeper insight into pieces of the game's lore, some of the changes have been hailed as unnecessary. With "O Death" being at the top of the list of criticisms towards the remake, only time will tell if Ballistic Moon offers updates to change the opening song. This is unlikely, but the absence of such a beloved song has left many confused by the change.
