The Barcelona star, 34, was informed on Thursday night that he would be leaving the team due to financial constraints that prevented the signing of a new deal.
The shocking information marks a new phase in the remarkable career of the record-breaking six-time Ballon d’Or winners.
PSG has been suggested as a potential next move, and talks with the French juggernauts are apparently already underway. Manchester City will do everything in its power to get Messi back together with Pep Guardiola, his footballing idol. But off the field, his 63-year-old father, a former employee at a metal foundry in Rosario, Argentina, is his biggest inspiration.
Before he joined Newell’s Old Boys, Jorge Messi coached his kid for the neighborhood team Grandoli.
Jorge arranged for his son to have a trial in Barcelona when the prodigy had hormone injections for a condition that caused him to grow slowly.
When Lionel was 13 years old, the family relocated to Spain after he impressed coaches and it was decided the club would cover his medical expenses.
Jorge explained to Kicker in 2013 that “(Leo) always obeyed what I said to him as his coach.”
“He still acts the way even today. I’m now 25 years old, a man, and the best player in the world, but he has never told me that.
